Hilotherapy delivered to your door

New Post-Surgery and Injury Cooling Therapy Now Available to All

London - 1 February, 2010 - The revolutionary new healing therapy used on 'Strictly Come Dancing' celeb Jade Johnson and world heavyweight boxing champion David Haye to help them recuperate from injuries is now finally available to the public nationwide. Hilotherapy (www.hilotherapy.co.uk), which is currently being trialled by the NHS and has already resulted in reducing hospital stays by half, circulates cool water through adaptable cuffs to drastically reduce swelling and pain and, unlike ice, gel packs or even bags of frozen peas, avoids the risk of nerve and tissue damage by providing controlled cold temperatures. The new, portable version of the device is ideal for any patient recuperating from surgery (such as an orthopaedic op or even a facelift) or other trauma such as sports injury. The equipment can be easily ordered online for quick delivery anywhere in the country and kept for as many days as needed.

Hilotherapy was introduced to the UK in late 2009 by one of the world's top craniofacial surgeons, Norman Waterhouse, who referred to the therapy as the ideal solution for cosmetic surgery patients, during his keynote presentation at the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) Scientific Meeting. Since then, the technology has made headlines as not only ideal for those undergoing boob jobs but has even been adopted by the RFU for use on their Rugby players during this year's Six Nations' Tournament.

According to Stuart Watkins, Hilotech's Director; “We're thrilled to be making this innovative technology available to the public at large. Any patient wishing access to this treatment can simply visit our website to pre-book before their surgery or, should they want to, have same-day delivery. Hilotherapy negates the need for the use of traditional coolants such as ice compresses or gel pads which can actually stop the healing process - potentially damage skin and tissue or even causing frostbite and paralysis.”

Hilotherapy can be used all over the body: anywhere where swelling, pain and haematoma are present or need to be prevented. The adaptable cuffs can be set at the exact required temperature, to the degree, anywhere between +10°C and +30°C to promote the body's natural healing forces. The portable device is provided in a carrying case, weighs 3.6kg when empty and only requires a power supply (100-240V).

Stuart Watkins added; “Hilotherapy is set to revolutionise medicinal therapy and can be applicable to a number of fields - it is currently widely used in sports injury, plastic surgery, maxillofacial and orthopaedic surgery but can be used for a number of other applications.”

Hilotherapy is also applicable in ENT Medicine, Dermatology, Emergency Medicine, Ophthalmology, Physiotherapy / Rehabilitative Medicine, Rheumatology and Dentistry, among others. Members of the public can order Hilotherapy by visiting www.hilotherapy.co.uk or calling the helpline. Price is £45 per day with a one-off delivery charge of £18+VAT (or £43+VAT for same-day delivery).
